David Karanka

David Karanka de la Hoz (born 20 April 1978) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a striker.
==Football career==
Karanka was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava. The younger brother of Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Colorado Rapids player Aitor Karanka,〔(33 años no son nada (33 years is nothing) ); La Verdad, 4 October 2011 〕 he came up through the ranks of the Basque giants, and first appeared with the main squad on 14 May 2000, playing 15 minutes in a 0–0 La Liga away draw against RCD Espanyol.
After a loan stint to CF Extremadura in the 2000–01 season, where he scored 13 second division goals, Karanka returned to Athletic, with virtually no impact (six games, although he scored once in a 3–2 thriller win at Celta de Vigo, as Bilbao trailed 0–2 with eight minutes remaining〔(Remontada espectacular del Athletic en Balaídos (Spectacular Athletic comeback at Balaídos) ); ABC, 12 November 2001 〕).〔(David Karanka desvela que Aitor puede volver a Bilbao (David Karanka reveals Aitor may return to Bilbao) ); Diario AS, 20 May 2002 〕 He subsequently returned to the second level, helping Real Murcia achieve promotion in 2002–03 by netting 13 goals, and adding seven in next season's top flight as the club returned to where it came from.
After two years Karanka was transferred to fellow league side Sporting de Gijón, where his form deteriorated, scoring only twice in 33 matches in two seasons combined. In January 2008 he joined Real Unión in Irun, moving in August to another division three team, UE Sant Andreu.
Karanka split the 2009–10 campaign between CD Guijuelo and Orihuela CF also in the third division, netting just three goals combined. Aged 32, he dropped down to the fourth level and signed for CD Cieza.〔(El Cieza ficha a David Karanka (Cieza signs David Karanka) ); La Verdad, 27 August 2010 〕
